A School for the People, A School of Thought and Teachers of Teachers
The Saturday Free School recognizes the failure of universities to create knowledge for the people. We see a need for spaces outside these institutions which can create knowledge that is scientific and tied to revolutionary practice.
We meet every Saturday to discuss social movements, politics, and the path ahead for humanity. We are grounded in the thinking and practice of figures such as James Baldwin, W.E.B. Du Bois and Martin Luther King Jr. We have studied the works of revolutionaries such as Fidel Castro, Angela Davis, Howard Thurman, Huey P. Newton, Lenin, Kwame Nkrumah, Henry Winston, among others. We organize events, symposiums and celebrations for the political education of the people of Philadelphia. We meet every Saturday at 10AM at The Church of the Crucifixion at 807 Bainbridge St. All are welcome to attend and participate. |
Seizing our future: the revolutionary music of ellington, mingus, sun ra and bootsyA two-day symposium May 10-11th to celebrate the revolutionary music of Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Sun Ra and Bootsy Collins and reclaim the music's spirit of political commitment to the all-humanity struggle for freedom.
