Year of the indian freedom struggle, 2022

A yearlong celebration of the indian freedom struggle and its deep connections to black america

2022
Picture
This year marks the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence from British colonial rule. The revolutionary ideas and practices that developed in the struggle not only united the masses of India, but deeply resonated with anticolonial liberation movements in Asia, Africa and Latin America, and found a political home in the Black freedom movement in America.

We in Philadelphia and Bengaluru are engaged in a year-long celebration with reading groups and conferences studying the Indian struggle, the Black radical tradition and their historical ties, with a view to discover the relevance of these ideas in today's world.
